The Position
Under the direction of the Head Coach, the UT Men’s Rugby Media and Communications Coordinator provides promotional and administrative support for media relations, social media management, on and off campus recruiting, management and oversight of fundraising strategies, and game day promotion and event management. This internship is funded through the Butch Robertson Endowed Scholarship Fund and will provide the selected student with a $1000 stipend for each semester. The internship is for the academic year beginning in August and concluding in May.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Media Relations
- Writing and editing press releases
- Pre- and post-match stories
- Conduct interviews with coaches and players
Social Media Management
- Website articles, feature stories and informational postings
- Implement Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posting strategy
Recruiting
- Communication management with prospects
- Maintain recruit database
- Coordinate visits and recruiting events
Event Management
- Creating and publishing weekly match updates
- Organizing and Managing game day operations related to special events / guests
- Promotion and communication of matches and events
Alumni Relations
- Assist with updates to alumni database
- Creating periodic alumni communications
- Website and social media updates related to alumni activities and news updates
Requirements
- Enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Tennessee.
- Completed at least 24 hours of coursework for a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and desktop publishing programs
- Sound knowledge of social media platforms
- Understanding of and history in organized athletics
- Capable writing and communication skills

The Men’s Rugby Club at UT
Rugby was founded on the campus of the University of Tennessee in 1970. For over 50 years UT Rugby has been a leader in collegiate club rugby in the US while maintaining its firm commitment to the Volunteer Rugby Maxim: Family – School – Rugby.
